The Nonprofit Fundraising University Approach  Module 1

Here in the first module, we are setting the stage and setting expectations. This module is also helping you get your mind around why we are going to be talking about things differently. Let me be very clear. This is a program for people in the nonprofit world that wants to be able to talk about fundraising and fundraise in a sustainable and professional way.

Lesson 1: Introduction to the Module

Here in the first module, we are setting the stage and setting expectations. This module is also helping you get your mind around why we are going to be talking about things differently. Let me be very clear. This is a program for people in the nonprofit world that wants to be able to talk about fundraising and fundraise in a sustainable and professional way. We aren’t teaching “get funding quick” schemes. We aren’t leaning into mindsets that stunt our ability to raise money.

We are learning about tried and true fundraising that is sustainable. These strategies are how large 130-year-old organizations build their organization.

Lesson 2: We are Professional Fundraisers Now

Nobody likes to fundraise. At least in the beginning. And no one wants to take responsibility for fundraising. Board members say, “It’s not my job”. Staff say, “It’s not my job.” And the Executive Director secretly cries, “Why does it have to be solely my job!” The truth is fundraising is too big of a job for just one person.

Lesson 3: The Difference Between Begging and Fundraising

Many people have the misconception that fundraising is begging. You are begging for someone to give to you. But that isn’t true fundraising.

True fundraising is connecting the people who want to make a difference in their world to the people who make that difference. Donors choose the causes they are passionate about in many different ways. Hear me- they choose causes.

Lesson 4: What is Sustainable Fundraising?

Sustainable funding is a holistic approach to fundraising that moves beyond nonsustainable activities such as securing grants or tapping a few wealthy corporate or personal patrons. Sustainable fundraising is the strategies and activities we use to raise those sustainable funds. We talk about the 4 Principles of Sustainablility.

Alesha Mathis

Instructor

Most nonprofit leaders lay awake at night trying to figure out how to fund their mission. I teach sustainable fundraising in a way that they can take action today so they can serve their clients.

I can help you move from just getting started funding your new nonprofit to gaining confidence in your fundraising and building relationships to knowing what works for your organization and looking at the infinite game when it comes to funding. I’ve worked with nonprofit Founders and written the book I HAVE MY 501(C)3! NOW WHAT?!? Your Blueprint to Starting Your Nonprofit Without Being the Sole Funder that lays the foundations for funding in a new nonprofit.

I’ve worked in Development (Fundraising) Departments in large organizations and I know the no cost, low-cost methods they use to bring in funding. I bring those sound strategies to the nonprofits I serve.
